FOB or duty paid?
How to compare apparel prices.

The unit price on a quote is only part of what a garment costs you. Here is what to add, and why a duty-paid price is often the easier one to compare.

What goes into a landed cost

A landed cost is everything you pay to have a finished garment in your hands in the US:

  1. Factory price (FOB): the garment, trims and packing, loaded at the origin port.
  2. Freight: ocean or air, plus port and handling charges.
  3. Duties and tariffs: based on the garment's classification, its value and its country of origin. Rates for apparel change often, especially for goods made in China.
  4. Customs and brokerage: entry filing, bonds and fees.
  5. Last mile: from the port or warehouse to your door.

FOB vs. duty paid (DDP)

With FOB pricing, you arrange freight and act as importer of record, so duties, entries and tariff changes are yours. With duty-paid (DDP) pricing, the supplier does all of that and quotes one number.

On Wiser's DDP orders, Wiser is the importer of record and hands goods over locally in the US. You compare one landed price per style, and tariff surprises stay with us.

How country of origin changes the number

The same garment can have a lower factory price in one country and a lower landed price in another, because duties follow the country of origin. That's why every Wiser quote names the country and the landed price together. See how we place programs by country.
